Dedicated to Restoring Sight

SightLife’s work in India began in Hyderabad in 1989. Today, the Ramayamma International Eye Bank is recognized as one of the best in the world!

Here’s how the project works:

  • There are 2.5 million people suffering from cornea blindness in India — and almost every single one of these people are curable!
  • Ramayamma vigorously promotes tissue donation. In a society that has very low rates of organ donation, Ramayamma does an exceptional job encouraging people to give the gift of sight with their corneas. In addition, they run a very successful Hospital Corneal Recovery Program where hospital patients are asked if they would like to donate their corneas to help others see.
  • They are the largest provider of sight-restoring corneas in India. Working together, we’ve expanded the number of corneas donated and elevated the practice of eye banking across the entire country. Impeccable quality control and a professional management team make Ramayamma a bright spot in eye banking around the world.
  • Finally, we train other eye bank professionals for India and all of SE Asia.

Eye banks like Ramayamma find the organ donors, collect the corneas, prepare them for surgery and deliver them to the operating room. And a little while later a person who was blind can see again!

Can you believe you can do all of that for just $120? You can make a blind person like Manoj see again!
